By day you may find him tamed to the confines of his store trying to sell you cell service, something he's been doing for the past seven years. But come night, DJ Kevin Bell is unleashed at Granby Theater in Norfolk or Central 111 in Virginia Beach, living out his life's passion, making you dance to some of the hottest beats in Hampton Roads.
"I like to take people on a roller coaster of musical emotions," Bell describes his eclectic style. "From tapping your feet to jumping up and down is what I'm known for."
Bell says he likes to mix music from his 90s past with what's playing on the radio today. He appeals to all crowds while keeping his house music roots. Although originally from Guam, Bell claims Hampton Roads as his home. He graduated from Denbigh High School and has lived here for nearly 20 years. Throughout his life, however, Bell said he's traveled all over to understand the meaning of music from all genres. Now he pieces all that he's learned into every one of his DJ sets.
The crowd loves it. To drive the audience wild, Bell says likes to interact with people while he's working. "A little dancing here and there," he says, "let's the crowd know I'm having just as much fun as them."
And that fun is what makes him one of the local's hottest DJs.
